Coloring Page Generator
Choose a design type, set its options and press New design; print one page or a whole coloring book.
How to use the coloring page generator
- Choose a design type from the ‘Design type’ chips. For a random pick, press ‘Surprise me’.
- Set the options that appear for that type. For example, Mandala has symmetry, detail and style, and Word lets you enter your own text and background.
- Open ‘Page settings’ and choose the Paper (US Letter or A4), the Orientation (Portrait or Landscape), the Line weight (Thin, Medium or Thick) and the Page border (None, Line, Rounded or Double).
- If you want, type a ‘Title on the page’ and tick ‘Add a name line’.
- Set ‘Number of pages’ from 1 to 30.
- Press ‘New design’ to draw a new picture with the same settings until you find one you like.
- Pick an output: ‘Print’, ‘Download PDF’, ‘Download PNG’ or ‘Download SVG’.
Switching to another design type keeps your page settings, so you can mix types in one session. Press the N key as a shortcut for ‘New design’. ‘Copy link’ copies a web address that holds your settings and design number, so the same picture opens again later. ‘Color it online’ opens the same picture in the site’s online coloring tool.
‘Surprise me’ can be pressed as often as you like.
What kinds of coloring pages can a coloring page generator make?
The tool offers 12 design types in three groups. Pattern designs are Mandala, Geometric pattern, Stained glass and Doodle patterns. Holiday and celebration designs are Snowflake, Christmas tree, Ornament template, Christmas picture and Happy birthday. Text designs are Alphabet, Number and Word.
Snowflake designs follow a rule from real snow crystals: they are six-fold symmetric, so the same shape repeats six times around the center. The ‘Detail’ setting (simple, medium or intricate) and the ‘Crystal type’ setting (branching, plate or mixed) change how busy the picture looks. Simple detail suits younger children, while intricate detail suits older colorists with more patience.
Line weight is the main choice to match to the person coloring. Thick lines, about 1 mm, suit young children and markers. Thin lines, about 0.35 mm, suit colored pencils and fine detail. Medium lines, about 0.6 mm, sit between the two. Because every closed shape has a white inside, any space can be colored in.
How do I make a coloring book with many pages?
Set ‘Number of pages’ to any value from 1 to 30. Each page is a different design, so the book does not repeat the same picture on every sheet. Keep the same paper size, orientation and border for all pages so they look like one set.
The output you choose decides how the book is saved. ‘Download PDF’ puts all pages into one vector PDF with sharp lines at any size, which makes it the easiest file to print later. ‘Print’ prints only the picture pages, one picture per sheet.
To finish the book, use ‘Title on the page’ for a short heading in big outline letters at the top, and ‘Add a name line’ so each colorist can write a name on the page.
Which design type should I pick?
For calm, detailed coloring, pick Mandala, Stained glass or Doodle patterns and set the detail high. For a quick page for a young child, pick Alphabet, Number or Snowflake with simple detail and Thick lines. For a personal page, Word prints any name or short quote, and Happy birthday adds a name, an age and a cake or balloons. In November and December, Christmas tree, Ornament template and Christmas picture cover trees, cut-out ornaments, fireplaces, snowmen and wreaths. If you cannot decide, ‘Surprise me’ picks a type for you; press it again for another.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell or share the pages I make?
What you make with the tool is yours to use for personal, school, classroom and business purposes, as the terms say. Please do not resell the pages as a stand-alone product.
Is the coloring page generator free and private?
Yes. It is free, requires no sign-up, and runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.
Can I turn my own photo into a coloring page?
Not with this generator, which draws its own designs. For photos, use the separate photo to coloring page converter linked below.
Are the pictures copied from the internet?
No. Every picture is drawn by the site’s own code when you press a button, and nothing is copied from an image collection.
Which file format should I download?
Use PDF for a multi-page book, since it saves all pages in one sharp vector file. PNG saves page 1 as an image at 2550 × 3300 pixels for US Letter (300 dpi), and SVG saves page 1 as a vector file.
Can I color the picture on screen instead of printing it?
Yes. ‘Color it online’ opens the same picture in the site’s online coloring tool.
