How to make coloring orchid pages
- Click a quick style such as Orchid flower, Orchid spray, Potted orchid, Orchid branch, Lotus or Hibiscus. Or open the ‘Picture’ menu and choose a drawing, or leave it on ‘Surprise me’.
- Open ‘Layout’ and choose ‘One big picture’, ‘2 pictures’, ‘4 pictures’, ‘6 pictures’ or ‘Folding card’.
- With one big picture, open ‘Backdrop’. ‘Automatic’ puts the flowers in a garden scene; you can also choose another scene, or ‘None’ for a plain page.
- The picture’s name is shown under each picture by default. Untick ‘Show the picture’s name’ to remove it.
- Type a ‘Headline’ of up to 40 characters, set ‘Writing lines’ from 0 to 6 and choose a ‘Letter style’ of Chunky or Rounded.
- Under ‘Page settings’, choose the paper (US Letter or A4), orientation, line weight (Thin, Medium or Thick) and page border. Choose Thin for finer lines. You can also add a title and a name line.
- Set ‘Number of pages’ (1 to 30) if you want more than one sheet.
- Press ‘New design’ (or the N key) for a fresh page with the same settings. Then press ‘Print’ or ‘Download PDF’.
‘Download PNG’ and ‘Download SVG’ save page 1 as an image, ‘Copy link’ copies an address that reopens the same page, and ‘Color it online’ opens the same picture in the site’s online coloring tool.
What do the orchid drawings show?
The orchid flower is drawn in front view like a moth orchid: one upper sepal, two broad side petals, two lower sepals and a small lip in the middle with a line down the center. The orchid spray and the orchid branch show several flowers along a curved stem with buds at the end, and the potted orchid stands in a pot with long leaves. All the petals are separate closed shapes, so each one can have its own color. The single flower suits a big page, and the spray works well with a Thin line weight.
What are orchids?
Orchids belong to the family Orchidaceae, a large group of flowering plants that live on every continent except Antarctica. Many are epiphytes, which means they grow on trees rather than in soil. Moth orchids, the genus Phalaenopsis, have about seventy species. They are native to Asia, New Guinea and Australia, and they are known for flat flowers that last a long time. These coloring pages show a simplified moth orchid shape, not a botanical drawing of one species.
What colors can an orchid be?
Orchid flowers come in white, pink, purple, yellow, orange and green, often with spots, stripes or a different color on the lip. For a natural look, try white or pale pink petals with a yellow or magenta lip and green leaves. For a more artistic page, choose a gradient from pink to purple, or color each petal in a different shade. The stem and leaves are separate areas that suit green or brown.
Can I print an orchid and flower coloring book?
Yes. Choose the quick style ‘Whole set, one per page’ for a 10-page pack with the four orchids and the six other flowers, or ‘4 pictures per page’ to put four different pictures on every sheet. With the ‘Folding card’ layout, the picture and a headline go on the front and To:, From: and a message box inside, which makes a handmade flower card.
Frequently asked questions
Are these coloring orchid pages good for adults?
The pictures have clean medium outlines and many small petals and buds, so they suit adults who want a relaxed activity as well as older children. Choose a Thin line weight for finer lines.
Is the orchid a real species?
The drawing is a simplified moth orchid shape for coloring. It is not a botanical illustration of one species.
Which other flowers are included?
The set also has a lily, a hibiscus, a lotus, a rose, a cherry blossom and a vase of flowers. Pick them from the Picture menu or use ‘Surprise me’.
Can I write on the page?
Yes. Type a Headline of up to 40 characters, or set Writing lines from 0 to 6 to print lines under the picture.
Which pencils and paper work best?
Colored pencils on smooth paper suit the small petals and buds best. Use a Thin line weight for the spray and the branch, and Medium or Thick for the single flower if you prefer crayons or markers.
Can I use what I make with the coloring orchid commercially?
Yes. Everything you make here is royalty-free for personal, classroom and commercial use, including KDP books, Etsy printables and Teachers Pay Teachers. No credit is required. The only thing you may not do is copy the generator or the site itself to run a competing service; see the terms.
