Ornament Coloring Template
Choose a shape, a pattern and how many per page; add a name or year, then color, cut and hang.
How to use the Ornament Coloring Template
- Pick a Shape: Round (the default), Oval, Teardrop, Star, Bell, Heart, or Mixed shapes for different shapes on one page.
- Set Ornaments per page to 1 (big), 2, 4 or 6. Fewer ornaments leave more room for coloring.
- Choose a Pattern: Blank template (the default), Stripes, Zigzag, Snowflakes, Dots, Mini mandala, or Empty name band.
- To personalize, type up to 24 characters into Name or year, such as Emma 2026. The text appears in outline letters across a band on each ornament. Turn on Dashed cut line to draw a cutting guide around each ornament and its loop.
- Open Page settings to choose the paper (US Letter or A4), Orientation, Line weight (Thin, Medium or Thick), Page border, an optional Title on the page, Add a name line, and Number of pages (1 to 30; each page is a different design).
- Press New design (or the N key) to draw a new picture with the same settings.
- Press Print, or choose Download PDF, Download PNG or Download SVG.
The four quick styles (Blank round ornament, Name ornament, Star ornament and Set of 6 to cut out) set the controls for you, so you can start with one press. Print sends only the picture pages, one picture per sheet. Download PDF saves all pages in one sharp file. Copy link stores your settings and design number, so the same picture opens again. Color it online opens the same picture in the online coloring tool.
How do I make a paper ornament to hang on the tree?
A paper ornament is a printed sheet that you color, cut out and give a hanging loop. Print on card stock, or glue the sheet to thin card so it holds its shape on a branch. Round, oval, teardrop and bell ornaments have a hanger cap and a loop, while star and heart shapes have a loop but no cap.
- Color the ornament while the sheet is still flat and easy to handle. Markers and colored pencils work on card; glitter glue is best added last.
- Cut along the cut line. If you turned on Dashed cut line, follow it all the way around the loop too.
- Punch a hole through the loop with a hole punch.
- Thread ribbon or string through the hole, tie it off and hang the ornament on a branch. A loop of about 15 cm (6 inches) is easy to slip over a branch.
How many ornaments fit on one page?
You can fit 1 large ornament, 2, 4 or 6 on a page, and they are laid out in a grid. One big ornament gives the most space for detailed patterns and is easiest for young children to color. Six per page suits a cutting job, because one sheet gives you a set of matching ornaments. For two or four per page, the tool turns the grid to suit the paper, so landscape pages put the ornaments side by side.
Every closed shape has a white inside, so each space can be colored with crayons, colored pencils or markers. Choose a smaller number per page if you plan to use fine detail, and a larger number if you want to finish several ornaments quickly. Mixed shapes puts different shapes on one sheet, so a page of six gives a varied set for one small tree or a classroom garland.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a blank template?
Yes. Blank template is the default Pattern, and the Blank round ornament quick style gives you the same empty outline. Pick any shape and leave the pattern as it is if you want to draw or write your own design.
Is it free and private?
Yes. The tool is free, needs no sign-up, and runs in your browser. Nothing you create is uploaded or sent to a server.
Can I put a name and year on it?
Yes. Type up to 24 characters into Name or year, such as Emma 2026, and it appears in outline letters across a band on the ornament. If you would rather write by hand, choose the Empty name band pattern to leave a space to write on.
Can I make a two-sided ornament?
Yes. Print two copies of the sheet, color both, and glue them back to back. Then cut out the ornament and punch the hole through the loop, as with a single-sided ornament.
Which line weight should I choose?
Choose Thick for young children and markers, since the strokes are about 1 mm. Choose Thin for colored pencils and fine detail, where the strokes are about 0.35 mm. Medium, at about 0.6 mm, sits between the two.
