How to make spring printouts for coloring

  1. Click a quick style such as Tulip, Bunny, Chick, Butterfly, Rainbow or Watering can. Or open the ‘Picture’ menu and choose a drawing, or leave it on ‘Surprise me’.
  2. Open ‘Layout’ and choose ‘One big picture’, ‘2 pictures’, ‘4 pictures’, ‘6 pictures’ or ‘Folding card’.
  3. With one big picture, open ‘Backdrop’. ‘Automatic’ picks a garden, meadow or sky to suit the picture; you can also choose a scene yourself, or ‘None’ for a plain page.
  4. The headline ‘Happy Spring’ is on by default. Untick ‘Show the greeting’ to remove it, or type your own words in ‘Headline’ (up to 40 characters).
  5. Tick ‘Show the picture’s name’ if you want each picture’s name printed under it. Set ‘Writing lines’ from 0 to 6 for a spring poem or a list of things children see outside.
  6. Under ‘Page settings’, choose the paper (US Letter or A4), orientation, line weight (Thin, Medium or Thick) and page border. You can also add a title and a name line.
  7. Set ‘Number of pages’ (1 to 30) for a class set or a book.
  8. Press ‘New design’ (or the N key) for a fresh page with the same settings. Then press ‘Print’ or ‘Download PDF’.

‘Download PNG’ and ‘Download SVG’ save page 1 as an image, ‘Copy link’ copies an address that reopens the same page, and ‘Color it online’ opens the same picture in the site’s online coloring tool.

Which spring pictures can I print?

The flowers are tulip, daisy, daffodil, cherry blossom and lavender, plus a flower pot and a watering can for a garden. The animals are bunny, duck, chick, lamb, bird, bee, ladybug, snail, frog and butterfly. For a sunny or rainy day there are an umbrella, a kite, a rainbow, the sun and a cloud, and for Easter-style pages a nest and an egg. If you need a page for a specific holiday, the site also has an Easter page with more eggs and baskets. These spring printable color pages work on their own or as a class pack.

What is a good way to use them in class or at home?

Choose ‘Whole set, one per page’ to print all 24 pictures as a spring coloring book, or ‘6 pictures per page’ to make a mixed spring sheet that each child can color in a different order. Use the ‘Folding card’ layout for a spring greeting, and type a message or a name in the Headline box. Set Writing lines to 3 or 4 and ask children to write what they see in spring. For younger children choose Thick line weight so the outlines are easy to follow.

When is spring?

In the Northern Hemisphere, meteorologists count March, April and May as spring, and the seasons are the other way round in the Southern Hemisphere. Spring is when many flowers bloom and many baby animals are born, which is why the set is full of tulips, chicks and lambs. The pictures are not tied to a date or a holiday, so you can print them any time you need a spring coloring picture.

Which backdrops are used?

With ‘Automatic’, each picture gets a scene that suits it: garden for the tulip, cherry blossom, watering can and butterfly, meadow for the daisy, daffodil, lavender, chick and lamb, and sky for the kite, rainbow, sun and cloud. Other pictures get a scene that suits them, such as a pond for the frog or a farm for the duck. The scenes are drawn behind the picture without covering it, and only on the one-big-picture layout. Choose ‘None’ for a clean page, which is better if you want children to draw their own background.
