Stained Glass Coloring Pages Maker

Choose a window shape, the number of glass pieces and a picture for the middle, then print.

Each picture is drawn by the site’s own code when you press a button, so you get a new design every time rather than a copy from an image collection. You can pick a window shape such as an arch, rose window or heart, add a flower, tree or star in the middle, and choose how many pieces the window has. Quick styles like Christmas stained glass give you a finished design in one click.

For a first try, press ‘Easy – big pieces’: it sets 30 pieces and heavy lead lines, so every glass piece is big enough for a young child. ‘Rose window’ and ‘Heart window’ change the window shape in one press, and ‘Christmas stained glass’ adds a tree and star.

How do you make a coloring page look like stained glass?

Use bright colors inside the pieces and keep the lead lines dark. Real stained glass is colored glass joined by lead strips, and the strips are what make each piece look like a separate panel.

Every closed shape on this page has a white inside, so each glass piece can take a full color. Markers give the most even, bright color, while colored pencils allow shading that suggests light moving across the glass. Keeping the lines black, or leaving them uncolored, gives the strong outline that real leaded glass has.

The lead line style changes the effect. Double line draws two thin lines with a channel between them, similar to the metal cames that hold real glass panels. Heavy line uses one thick line, which reads more clearly from a distance and suits young children. The window border is always drawn thicker than the lead lines, so the outer frame stands apart from the inner pieces, just as a real window frame does.

How many pieces should I choose for kids?

For young children, choose a low piece count, such as 20 to 40, with heavy lines. The Easy – big pieces style uses 30 pieces for this reason. Each space is large enough for a small hand to color without going over the lines.

Fewer pieces make bigger, easier spaces, while more pieces make smaller, more detailed ones. Older children and adults can handle the default of 80 or more, and colored pencils suit the finer lines of a higher count. If you add a picture in the middle, the number you choose counts only the pieces around it, so the center picture is not counted in the total.

How to color a stained glass coloring page

Start with a thick line weight if the coloring is for a young child, because wide lines are easier to stay inside. Color each glass piece with bright markers or colored pencils, and leave the lead lines black or dark gray.

For a faux stained glass effect, color the page with markers, then rub a little baby oil or cooking oil onto the back with a cotton ball. Let it soak in, then tape the page to a window so light shines through. Ask an adult to help with the oil and the taping.
