A turtle coloring sheet is an outline picture of a turtle with big areas to color in. This free maker draws one in your web browser, with no sign-up and nothing uploaded. The set has eight pictures: a friendly turtle, a sea turtle seen from above, a hatchling peeking out of its egg, a tortoise, a large shell pattern, a seashell, a fish and a jellyfish. Print one big picture, two, four or six to a page, or a folding card. The shell pattern is a good choice if you want a sea turtle coloring page with lots of small shapes. Press Print, or save a PDF, PNG or SVG. Every drawing is made by the site’s own code, so no picture is copied from another website.

How to make a turtle coloring sheet

  1. Click a quick style such as Turtle, Sea turtle, Hatchling, Tortoise, Turtle shell or Seashell. Or open the ‘Picture’ menu and choose a drawing, or leave it on ‘Surprise me’.
  2. Open ‘Layout’ and choose ‘One big picture’, ‘2 pictures’, ‘4 pictures’, ‘6 pictures’ or ‘Folding card’.
  3. With one big picture, open ‘Backdrop’. ‘Automatic’ gives the sea turtles an ocean and the tortoise a savanna; you can also pick another scene, or ‘None’ for a plain page.
  4. The picture’s name is shown under each picture by default. Untick ‘Show the picture’s name’ to remove it.
  5. Type a ‘Headline’ of up to 40 characters, set ‘Writing lines’ from 0 to 6 and choose a ‘Letter style’ of Chunky or Rounded.
  6. Under ‘Page settings’, choose the paper (US Letter or A4), orientation, line weight (Thin, Medium or Thick) and page border. You can also add a title and a name line.
  7. Set ‘Number of pages’ (1 to 30) if you want more than one sheet.
  8. Press ‘New design’ (or the N key) for a fresh page with the same settings. Then press ‘Print’ or ‘Download PDF’.

‘Download PNG’ and ‘Download SVG’ save page 1 as an image, ‘Copy link’ copies an address that reopens the same page, and ‘Color it online’ opens the same picture in the site’s online coloring tool.

Which turtle pictures are in the set?

The turtle is a cute side view with a hexagon pattern on its shell. The sea turtle is drawn from above, with four flippers, a head and a shell made of separate plates. The hatchling peeks out of a cracked egg. The tortoise has a high domed shell and thick, stumpy legs. The turtle shell is a big circle-like pattern of plates for older children, and the seashell is a quick fan shape. A fish and a jellyfish are there to fill a sea scene.

Turtle or tortoise?

A tortoise is a land reptile in the family Testudinidae. Its shell is usually high and domed, its legs are thick and stumpy, and it can live a very long time: most species live 80 to 150 years. Sea turtles are a different group. They have flippers instead of feet, and there are seven living species, including the green, hawksbill and leatherback. Five of the seven are listed as threatened with extinction. The drawings show these differences: flippers on the sea turtle and stumpy legs on the tortoise.

What colors can a turtle be?

Many sea turtles have olive, green, brown or yellowish shells, and tortoises often have brown and tan shells with patterns on each plate. Turtles in a coloring page can be any color: blue, purple or a rainbow shell look great. The plates on the sea turtle and the tortoise shell are separate areas, so children can color each one differently, and a pencil lets them add patterns inside the plates.

Can I print a turtle coloring book?

Yes. Choose the quick style ‘Whole set, one per page’ to make an 8-page pack with one picture on each page, or ‘4 pictures per page’ to put four different pictures on every sheet. The ‘Folding card’ layout puts a picture on the front and To:, From: and a message box inside. Type ‘Happy Birthday’ or a name in the Headline box to make a personal card.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a sea turtle coloring sheet?

Yes. Choose Sea turtle in the Picture menu for a view from above. The turtle shell pattern and the seashell go well with it on a beach page.

Which picture is best for little children?

The turtle and the hatchling have big, simple shapes. Choose a Thick line weight in Page settings for easier outlines.

Are cartoon turtle characters included?

No. All the turtles here are original drawings. Characters from films, TV and games are not used.

Can children write on the page?

Yes. Type a Headline of up to 40 characters, or set Writing lines from 0 to 6 to print lines under the picture, for example for a turtle fact.

Which paper and settings work best?

US Letter or A4 both work. Use Medium line weight for crayons and Thin for colored pencils. The turtle and the tortoise are wider than they are tall, so Landscape gives them a bigger print.

Can I use what I make with the turtle coloring sheet commercially?

Yes. Everything you make here is royalty-free for personal, classroom and commercial use, including KDP books, Etsy printables and Teachers Pay Teachers. No credit is required. The only thing you may not do is copy the generator or the site itself to run a competing service; see the terms.
